SUNDAY’S WORD:”The Defiled Heart”

Mark 7:14-15, 21-23

“(Jesus said)…It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart.”(Mark 7:15, NLT)(Illustration by Jenn Webster)

We have seen a whole lot of wickedness in the past few weeks; There is that horrible terrorist bombing in Manchester, England which took the lives of 22 people, while there were even more terrorist attacks in London as well, and yes, there are other kinds of hate crimes and other sad things happening here in our own home, too. It just seems to each of us that we had read and watched one string of very bad news after another, and I think I know why shocking news happens every now and then: Dreadful things are caused by people who have the vilest of hearts.

Yes, we all must go through such hard times occasionally, even though any kind of terrible thing that has happened was not our fault; However, there are other dreadful things which can happen by people who follow their own selfish and often foolish desires, desires in which Jesus Christ describes as having been caused by a defiled heart. Yes, when something bad comes out of a person’s mouth or that their minds cause them to do things that are the opposite of good, then inside their souls are defiled.

In the 7th chapter of the Gospel of Mark, Jesus began His teaching about inner purity; Beginning with the 14th verse(NLT), Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear His following message: “All of you listen, and try to understand. It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart…It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.” (vs. 20-23, NLT)

What Christ Jesus had just said is so very true: If you have evil thoughts, or commit sexual sin, or even have plotted murder against someone or have been planning to steal other people’s property, then all these things come from your very own defiled heart.

But here’s the thing: If you have been struggling in the past to rid your soul of the things that have defiled you, things such as the aforementioned sexual sin such as pornography, as well as gambling, taking drugs and alcohol, then I have such very good news for you, in fact VERY Good News! Our Lord God loves you and still loves you so very much; In fact, He loves you so much so that, in order to save you, He has sent His one & only Son, Christ Jesus Himself, to carry the ultimate burden for you on the cross, therefore paying the most incredible price for all of mankind, by being nailed to the cross at a place called Calvary, and then suffering, bleeding, then dying for us, for our sins. Then, three days later, our Heavenly Father raised Jesus from the dead, defeating death as He went out of that cold, dark, dismal tomb, so that each one of us could have eternal life.

If you really want to be fully forgiven of your sins and to be saved so that you could have that blessed gift of salvation so that you could have eternal life, then all you must do is to ask the Lord God that you are sorry for your sins, and that you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and had been raised from the dead on the third day. Now, here is the most wonderful bonus yet: Once you have repented of your sins and have given your heart to Jesus Christ, then the Holy Spirit will very well indeed produce “this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there. Since we are living in by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” (Galatians 5:22-25, NLT)

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent His Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through Him.” (John 3:16-17, NLT)

My dearest friends, are you ready to be repented of your sins, and to receive the gift of salvation that has been won for us by our Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ? Then I ask you to please pray this prayer with me: “Oh, Lord God, I admit that I am a poor, miserable sinner. I have ultimately sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. I believe that Your Son, Jesus Christ, died on the cross for my sins, and that You have raised Him from the dead on the third day, defeating death as He went out of the tomb, so that I could have life eternal. I ask that You please forgive me of all my sins, and invite Your Son Christ Jesus to come into my heart, so that I could follow Him always as my personal Savior. Thank You so very much for sending Your Son to die for me. In His most holy & blessed name. Amen.”

If you have just prayed this prayer with me, then I would like to welcome YOU into the Family of God! Now, the very next thing that you need to do now that you are a follower of Jesus would be to read the Holy Bible, God’s most blessed word, each and every day, and then when you are ready to praise, worship, and to thank our Heavenly Father for what His Son has done for you so that you could be saved and have eternal life, then I urge you to please go to a good, Christian church each and every Sunday. I very much hope and pray that YOU make this most blessed choice of following Christ Jesus today, for always. Thank you so very much for reading today; Until the very next time, may the Lord God bless you ever so richly.
